Stop AutoPlay in XP and Avoid infecting Viruses…

When you insert a CD in to rom or when you plug a portable device such as a pen drive via USB port, it will pop up a window. It’s the 'AutoPlay' window. The AutoPlay window helps you to quick access to your device. It asks what should be the next step with your device. But do you know it’s a invitation for ‘Viruses’ to infect your system. So till you take a action like ‘Scan for virus..’,you may need to stop this AutoPlay function. To do this follows these steps,

Click Start > Run > type gpedit.msc > OK

At the ‘Group Policy’ window select ‘Administrative Templates’
(Double click on it or click on ‘+’)

Then Select ‘System’

In the right side pane you will see an item named as ‘Turn off Autoplay’

Double Click on it.
You will see ‘Turn Off AutoPlay Properties’ dialog box. Under ‘Setting’ tab at 'Turn Off AutoPlay' category select ‘Enabled’ radio button.
And you can select Turn Off AutoPlay On All Drives Or CD-Rom drives.
It’s better select for all drives.

Click Apply > OK

Best Tips to Speed Up Windows Vista

The amount of virtual memory which handles automatically by Vista is not enough to boost your performance. So you can speedup Vista performance by setting up it manually. It's better double the amount of your physical RAM as virtual RAM amount.



To do that go through bellow steps,


Click Start > Control Panel > System and Maintenance > System > In the Tasks Panel > click Advanced System Settings



Then clik on,
'Advanced' tab > 'Performance' > Settings


Under the,
Advanced tab > Virtual Memory > click on Change


Then uncheck the "Automatically manage paging file size for all drives" check box .


•Select the C: drive (Or the drive contains the paging file)


Click on 'Custom size' then enter the desired size in both the Initial size and Maximum size boxes.


It is better to double the amount of your RAM.

     Ex: If you have 2048MB (2GB) of RAM, you should set both the Initial size      and Maximum size to 4096MB


Click Set > OK.

As the second step you can turn off unnecessary services that may cause to reduce your Vista performance.


To do this,


Click Start > Run > type services.msc > OK


Below list will show you each service that start automatically by default with Vista which you can disable ;


• Computer Browser

• Distributed Link Tracking Client


• IKE and AuthIP IP Keying Modules


• Offline Files


• Remote Registry


• Tablet PC Input Service (unless you're using a tablet PC)


• Windows Error Reporting



And you Should Not disable below services;


• Multimedia Class Scheduler


• Plug and Play


• Superfetch


• Task Scheduler


• Windows Audio


• Windows Driver Foundation


Remember to focus only on 'Automatically' startup services. And turn off the ones that you can recognize as unnecessary. If you got a problem after turning off or if u needed one of these services back you can easily turn on them.



Also you can follow,
Start > Run > type msconfig > OK
Then you will direct to the System Configuration window. At the System Configuration window under the 'Startup' tab you may see some another programs that starts automatically when you boot up the system.


So you can avoid these programs from 'Auto Starting' by unchecking them. As same as the earlier step you can easily turn on them when you needed.

ReadyBoost is another option to use to ramp up Vista performance, by providing additional memory. The difference with this method and installing additional physical memory is that ReadyBoost uses flash memory that usually resides on a USB drive. The trick is making sure that the USB drive has enough memory for ReadyBoost. ReadyBoost is also used to facilitate SuperFetch, an updated version of Windows XP's prefetcher which performs analysis of boot-time disk usage patterns and creates a cache which is used in subsequent system boots. When a USB drive is connected, Vista will ask you if you want to use the drive to improve system performance. You can allocate a specific amount of memory to use for ReadyBoost. The extra RAM may provide a noticeable boost in system performance.

Another way to improve Vista's performance is using Disk Defragmenter.

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter.

From here you can select either ‘Defragment Now’ which will begin the process immediately, or ‘Modify Schedule’ which will tell Vista to defragment at a set time.

As a general tip uninstall all unnecessary programs from your computer.

Speed Up Windows Vista Aero

Windows Aero may add attract to the interface, but it may also slow down your System Speed. You can speed up your PC by turning it off or by turning off some features of Aero.


To Disable Transparent Glass Effect

Right-click the desktop > Personalize > Window Color and Appearance and Uncheck Enable Transparency





To Disable Windows Minimize/Maximize Animation

Click on the Start > Computer > System Properties > Click 'Visual Effects' tab > uncheck 'Animate Windows When Minimizing/Maximizing'  >  OK



To turn off some other Aero features to speed up your PC as your own choice,you can follow bellow steps.

Click Start > Computer > System Properties > Click Advanced system settings

In the Performance section,

click Settings  > Custom

uncheck those features that you want to turn off  >  OK

Speed Up Your Windows Performance

01.
As the first step,scan Your Windows System for Errors.To do this use a utility called
'System File Checker'.
To launch the 'System File Checker',close any open programs on your Desktop and  follow the
step,


Click Start and run > sfc /scannow  >  OK

It will correct every problems it finds.

Do not allow to start Programs automatically.

03.

Uninstall unused programs.

 

04.

Change your Visual Effects.

Right click on 'My Computer' Click Properties > Advanced tab > Performance > Settings

Adjust effects as the version of your Windows.
 
 
05.
CleanUp your Disks.
 Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > click Disk Cleanup.

You will be prompted to specify which drive you want to clean.

06.
Defrag Your Hard Drives.

Click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools >  click Disk Defragmenter.

* You can analyze a volume before defragmenting it to get an estimate of how long the

defragmentation process will take.
